FIJI

beautiful beaches and some of the friendliest people in the South Pacific

I had two weeks in Fiji, a stopover from Australia back to the US. I spent a couple days in the major cities, Nandi and Suva, as well as a couple days along the Coral Coast of the main island which was beautiful. But the best part was traveling to one of the most remote places I've ever been- Ono Island. I first took a small 12 passenger plane from Suva to the Island of Kandavu. From there I was met by the "resort" staff and taken on a small fishing boat, a nearly two hour ride, to Ono Island, which has no roads whatsoever and is inhabited with only a few small villages. I stayed in a hut on the most beautiful beach I've ever seen, pictured below. Often I would hike up to the highest point on the island and enjoy the incredible view of the South Pacific with the Astrolabe Reef in the distance, the world's third largest reef system with the best scuba-diving I've ever experienced. I had only a week on Ono Island but I will never forget it. I also made friends with some of the locals who always had warm smiles and gave an open invitation into their homes. I'll definately never forget them.
Locations Visited: Nandi , Suva , Kandavu
