South Florida, Sea, Sand and Sun!
Home, At Last!
27 Jan 2007
Living in Atlanta took me away from the Paradise that Florida is, almost every day of the year. I moved back to Fort Lauderdale on December 12. I am so happy to be back in the Sunshine State, hanging out with my old friends.
I joined my sisters-in-spirit Sherrill, Carole, Tanya, Ann, Naomi, Jan and others to celebrate Christmas, birthdays and the New Year. It is so good to be around people who know and understand me. The past three years in Atlanta have taught me that you CAN come home.
Last night, I performed at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jazz Series (MOCA), in Miami, which was well-attended. I had a swinging good time with three of my favorite musicians, Howard Moss, who has been my drummer for over 20 years and it was his birthday; Don Coffman, who has played bass with me since the 90s; and John McMinn, a fine pianist who did one WOMEN IN JAZZ concert with me in West Palm Beach and will accompany me on April 19, 2007, in Fort Lauderdale for my Workshop and Book Launch.
In Focus Magazine publishers Woodie and Tony Lesesne commissioned me to write for them, again. My first assignment was to interview South Florida Today anchor and meteorologist Trina Robinson at NBC6 in Miramar. On that show was Vice Mayor Oscar Braynon II of the City of Miami Gardens, talking about the upcoming 2-day Jazz In The Gardens Concert. Of course, I gave my CD to him and Ula, the Events Coordinator! Maybe I'll be on the roster, in 2008.
On January 16, my fifth grandchild was born. It was her mother, Regine's birthday too. Her dad, my son, Michael is so proud of his two girls. Maelle (9), his first daughter is happy to have company.
I even wrote a new song, INTERNET LOVER, with my long-time friend, Tony Francis. See the lyrics and video on my site, www.fyicomminc.com
I have many irons in the fire, so stay tuned for updates!
