South America Travels
Lost luggage, locked toilets and long coach trips!
19 Oct 2006
Hi everyone
Hope your all well and working hard!
We arrived safely in Lima the other saturday - minus our luggage which thankfully turned up the next night, so only 2 days in the same clothes! So far we´ve spent a few days in Lima, not overly impressed but will see what I think next time we head thorugh there. We then headed up the coast for a few days sunning on the beach in Mancora which was bliss. We ´splashed out´ on a lovely little place right by the beach with terrace, hammock, looking straight onto beach - cost all of 26 pound per night!! Although the following night we ended up in very dody town paying only 4 pound and got what we paid for - the owners bedroom to sleep in, even came with DVD player!! But no windows or ventilation, a hosepipe for shower and not the cleanest. It was very nice of him to give us the double room but have to say really wish he hadn´t!!
We are now in Quito, we actually started leaving for Quito at 12.30pm last Friday, only took us until middnight Saturday to get here - so only the day and a half, 3 buses and dodgy hostel later!! Suppose thats all part of the fun, along with the spanish movies/music on the buses which are played exceptionally loud to torture all the non-spanish speakers.
Other than the fun of travelling I also managed to get myself locked in a cafe bathroom yesterday - I was on one side talking english, the onwer on the other talking spanish, no idea what each other were saying but thankfully he got me out!! Hence to say the plan for Quito is to learn Spanish very quickly or at least take my phrasebook everywhere I go! So far Quito seems really nice, although we{ve both been pretty ill since we arrived so not got to see much yet. Current plan after the Spanish lessons is to head off to the Galapagos for week or so, and then do some traveling round Ecaudor for a few weeks.
Anyway best get on, let me know whats happening back home
Bye for now
Joe
